She has a general counseling practice where she sees adults in individual and/or group therapy.
A Note from Dr. Hildreth: My philosophy about mental health counseling is that it takes a boatload of courage to make that initial phone call to see a counselor. But that is the perfect time to call. Maybe a person has been thinking about it for a while and feels embarrassed or afraid to call a stranger to help. It can be intimidating to seek professional mental health therapy but many studies show how meeting a therapist on a regular basis can help alleviate the psychological discomfort in one’s life.
A non-mental health professional friend of mine said something to me long before I became a therapist that has stuck with me to this day. She said, “Lorie, we humans are strange. We go to the doctor when something is medically wrong, but resist going to a therapist when we know something is up.” I guess this statement is, in part, one of the reasons why I decided to expand my practice and serve those folks who have the courage to pick up the phone and call. It just makes good sense.
